Introducing the new Bad Language co-host

On Wednesday we bid farewell to Dan and Nici, who have been co-hosting Bad Language events for three years. They’ll be stepping down from the monthly Manchester events to run things on a national level.

We introduced you all to our brand new co-host, Fat Roland, who wrote this lovely blog about what he wants to do with the events.

If you want to see the full announcement again, here it is!

An Announcement

This Wednesday, our usual Bad Language event will mark a sad occasion. Yes, we will have the usual incredible open mic performances, and we have a brilliant headliner in the shape of Emma Lannie, but we will also be saying goodbye to two of our hosts.

Daniel Carpenter and Nici West were two of the co-founders of Bad Language, and later this month they will be upping sticks and moving to the big smoke where they’ll be looking to spread the Bad Language word.

But do not fear, this is not the end of Bad Language in Manchester. Fellow co-founder and host Joe Daly will still be running both the monthly event at The Castle and more events in the city, and not only that but he will be joined by a BRAND NEW HOST who will be joining the Bad Language family for their Manchester endeavours.

But who is this host? Where did they come from?

We’ll be introducing you to them this coming Wednesday, but to keep you guessing, here’s an anagram that just might give you a clue:

Bad Language in February

Another month, and another Bad Language event is upon us.

This month we have two excellent literary events for you to get involved in.

First up, Bad Language are doing an hour of completely free words at the Royal Exchange as part of their SFX season on Friday 21st February. You can find information on that here.

We also have our regular Bad Language event at The Castle Hotel.

Our headliner for February will be Emma Lannie, who will be reading from her debut collection, ‘Behind a Wardrobe in Atlantis’.

Emma J. Lannie explores extraordinary moments within ordinary lives, that are evocative of fairy tale and myth. A magical collection of short fiction.

“Lannie explores the subtle dislocations that occur within relationships in a clear-eyed prose that is eloquent, graceful, and quiet. These tales occupy a landscape of emotional and physical impacts, of fallible characters longing for a connection but who find themselves at odds with the world, a world often sorrowful and darkly beautiful. Illuminating the fragility of human relationships, these are the sorts of stories we tell ourselves to survive. A truly remarkable first collection, and I can’t wait to see what she does next.” Ray Robinson.

On the open mic will be one of Bad Language’s very own hosts, as well as:

Tony Baxter
Tom Smith
Jackson Gadd
Sue Barnard
Alan Creedon
Stephanie Sabathy
Nadine West
Tom Kwei
Jake Duff

That’s Wednesday February 26th at 19:30. Free entry.

Bad Language in February

Bad Language is back this February on Wednesday 27th. Headlining the night is debut novelist Sarah Butler, author of “Ten Things I Learned About Love”. Heart-wrenching and life-affirming, this is a unique story of love lost and found, of rootlessness and homecoming and the power of the ties that bind.

‘Heartbreaking and hopeful, Ten Things I’ve Learnt About Love criss-crosses London in a search for fathers and daughters, family and home. For anyone who has ever wondered where they belong, or to whom they belong, the answer can be found within Sarah Butler’s tender debut novel’ Vanessa Diffenbaugh, author of The Language of Flowers

‘A very enjoyable read . . . subtle and clever’ Clare Morrall, Booker Prize-shortlisted author of Astonishing Splashes of Colour.
